Mathematics Classes
Class Descriptions
Unmath: Are you someone who struggles with
math? Do you wonder, "What's the point of having to take all this math?
When am I ever gonna need this?" Well, this course will strive to
provide students with activities to improve overall success in the area
of mathematics. The class will provide individualized skill building,
as well as instruction in general reasoning and problem-solving
strategies. We will also explore mathematical connections to other
areas as well as some elements in the development of math as a body of
knowledge.

Geometry: Algebra 1 PREREQUISITE. Topics covered in
this course include geometric art, inductive reasoning, basic geometric
constructions, and properties of lines, angles, triangles, circles, and
polygons. Vocabulary and terminology are emphasized. Area and volume
will be discussed as well as the Pythagorean theorem. Similarly,
trigonometry and deductive reasoning will be discussed as time permits.

Algebra 1: This course continues the study of the
language of algebra and its use in describing and predicting behavior
and relationships. The course will focus on the following areas:
working with patterns; algebra as a language; solving equations;
graphic representation; relations and functions; rates of change;
linear tools; slope and intercept; systems of equations; and
introduction to quadratic functions. Materials for class are drawn from
my own creations as well as from other supplementary math materials.

Algebra 2: Algebra 1 PREREQUISITE. This course
continues the study of non-linear relations and their application to
"real-world" scenarios. The course will focus on the following areas:
solving quadratics; polynomials; algebraic fractions; and graphing
non-linear functions. Materials for class are drawn from my own
creations as well as from other supplementary math materials.
